Experiment and see how you can manipulate a scene to create a memorable character introduction. Think about how the reactions of the cast and scale of the Brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park create a sense of wonder, or how the bird’s eye view of Anton Ego’s coffin room and focus on the skull typewriter instill a sense of dread as the character is introduced in Ratatouille.

Often, the right camera angle or visual information will help sell your characters’ personalities and motivations. When introducing your characters, consider shot selection. What do you think are examples of good character intros? What are some bad ones?

Proper character introductions are key to engaging your audience in your story.
